Follow-up RSS Comments Feed or Leave a TrackbackI am not so sure of the 1868 date. The first idea for the phonograph did not happen until 1857 and was called the phonautograph, invented by Frenchman Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville and patented on March 25, 1857. It could transcribe sound to a visible medium, but had no means to play back the sound after it was recorded. It was 20 years later in 1877 that Thomas Edison and another Frenchman, Charles Cros, both working independently, came up with the idea for playback. Edison used only cylinders using tinfoil sheets to record not records. Records were not produced until the 1920s. so like I said, 1868 is suspect. I am not sure what you got. I would have to see a picture to know exactly what you got.
